Hybrid golf travel bags are designed to save on space when you are traveling, and are also a lot lighter than regular hard case travel bags.  They are probably better for car travel than for being transported in aircraft luggage holds, since many are just a bit too light in weight and protection to stand up the handling they would normally get using baggage loading and unloading. However, much depends on much you are prepared to pay.

Hybrid bags are basically a combination of a regular golf bag and a travel case, and frequently have only the one hard side and a hard top cover.  The more expensive tend to be better made and provide a greater degree of protection to the extent that you can even stand on them without causing damage to your golf clubs. In general, however, they are designed to protect your clubs while weighing less and taking up less room that a proper golf bag travel case.

The less expensive models can be of fairly low diameter, and you will be hard pressed to force a full set of clubs into them  However, it can be done, and if you are prepared accept that then the smaller hybrid cases can save a lot of space in your trunk. They are designed  for use where space is at a premium, and to take up a small amount of room.

You can Pack your Golf Bag as Well as the Kids!

Sometimes there can be not too much space left in the trunk after packing for a family vacation, for instance, and you would have leave a suitcase or two behind to make room for your golf case. Use the hybrid bag and prevent your wife and kids from griping about having to leave half their stuff behind! Hybrid bags are not designed to be used in the same way as proper golf bag travel cases.  You cannot fit your golf bag into them, so will have to empty the bag and transfer the contents to your hybrid bag, then back again on your return. For that reason some people use a different set of clubs for their hybrid bags.  You might even be able to use it as a regular bag, though they are not generally designed for that.

Pay More to Get More

Although the lower priced models are more suitable for car travel than for air, if you pay a bit more then the higher priced hybrid cases tend to be a bit larger and provide more protection.  Some are hard all the way round and provide just as much protection as regular travel cases. Combine that with an outer removable cover to protect from dirt, and you have a good golf travel bag that will keep your clubs safe, and your bag as fresh and clean as when you packed it.

Prices range from under $50 to over $250 and the higher the price the better the quality. The higher priced hybrid golf travel bags generally offer more storage and more protection, so get the best your budget will allow.  The better models offer as much storage space as a regular golf bag with a lot more protection, and can often be used In the same way as a regular bag. Style, storage and security:  what more could you ask for in one bag!
